Dragon Medical One : Hosted in Australia for Australian Healthcare Professionals

Dragon Medical One — Security & Trust Centre (Australia)

Dragon Medical One (DMO) for Australia is hosted by Nuance on Microsoft Azure using two geographically distributed Australian data centres. VoiceX is your Australian reseller and first-line support partner; Nuance/Microsoft operate the secure, compliant hosting environment.

Hosting, Compliance & Availability

  • Hosted on Microsoft Azure in Australia with SOC 1 & SOC 2 compliant data centres and active/active deployment with continuous replication.
  • High availability architecture: redundant load balancers/switches, clustered app/speech servers, clustered databases, high-availability storage.

Encryption

  • In transit: HTTPS using TLS 1.2 with AES-256.
  • At rest: AES-256 (Azure Managed Disks with Storage Service Encryption) and Transparent Data Encryption for SQL metadata.

Data Retention & Model Training

Audio is streamed in real time and not stored on the local device. Within the platform, audio and text are stored securely to deliver the service and to train and optimise the speech engine for individual user profiles and to improve speech recognition accuracy for all users. DMO does not require patient metadata and does not associate recognised text with an identifiable patient record. Where applicable in APAC operations, stored data are encrypted and periodically deleted, and training data are handled in an anonymous manner.

Nuance’s privacy statement further explains that de-identified voice snippets may be manually reviewed to operate, tune, maintain and enhance Nuance products; Product Personal Data is not used for marketing and is not sold.

Network & System Security

  • Multi-layered firewalls (application, network, storage, machine, SQL) and “backbone-first” routing where possible.
  • DDoS mitigation and intrusion detection across Microsoft Azure and Nuance layers.
  • Administrative access via Microsoft Bastion with 2-step authentication and least-privilege controls.
  • 24/7 platform monitoring, vulnerability scanning and regular penetration testing; SSL Labs A+ TLS posture.

Shared Responsibility

Nuance/Microsoft secure the cloud platform and service; VoiceX provides first-line support and implementation guidance; customers remain responsible for endpoint security, identity/access policies, and compliance of their local environment.

Security & Privacy FAQs

Is my dictation audio stored locally on my device?

No. Audio is streamed in real time from your device to the DMO cloud over an encrypted connection and is never stored on your local machine.

Why does Nuance store my audio and text?

Stored audio and text are used to deliver your speech recognition service, adapt and optimise your personal speech profile, and improve the recognition accuracy of the product for all DMO users. These data are encrypted at rest and periodically deleted per APAC hosting policy.

Is my data used for general AI training or marketing?

Nuance may use de-identified snippets to build and enhance the speech recognition engine. This is strictly for product improvement and service tuning—never for marketing or resale. Product Personal Data is not sold.

Where is Dragon Medical One hosted for Australian users?

DMO for Australia is hosted in two Microsoft Azure data centres located in Australia East, with active/active deployment for high availability.

Who has access to my data?

Platform access is restricted to authorised Microsoft Azure and Nuance operations teams. ORdigiNAL (APAC hosting partner) does not have direct access to dictated content. VoiceX only accesses customer account and configuration data necessary to provide support.

How is security responsibility shared?

Nuance/Microsoft manage and secure the hosting infrastructure. VoiceX provides first-line support and implementation guidance. Customers are responsible for securing endpoints, user authentication, and their own local network environment.
